Then I knew that the message I had heard was from the Lord.

Observation
Jerusalem is under siege from the Babylonian army and Jeremiah is in prison for prophesying that the Babylonians will be successful in taking the city.

The Lord brings a word to Jeremiah that his cousin will come and offer to sell him a field. This happens and Jeremiah is encouraged to know that he is haring God correctly.

Jeremiah buys the field and arranges for the deeds to be publicly signed and the put into a pottery jar to preserve them. It is God's plan that people will once again own property in the land of Judah and that the coming exile will not be permanent.

Application
When we are going through times of national calamity of personal suffering, it can be hard to see there God is.

The Lord gave Jeremiah a practical reminder that Jeremiah was exactly in the right place and hearing the word of the Lord.

It is vital to listen to the Holy Spirit and to stand firm in Him, regardless of the cost.

Don't be discouraged then the world seems to reject you and fight you. This is the way it has always been. Just listen to God and obey Him.

God, help me to see what you are doing in my life. Grant me the grace to follow you alone. Amen.
