Reflection on Luke 18:1-8

Scripture
“Will God not bring about justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?”

Observation
Jesus tells a parable to show that we should not give up in praying.

A widow keeps coming to a corrupt judge pleading for justice against her adversary. The judge doesn't care about justice, but tires of being bothered by her. So he eventually caves in and sees that she gets justice.

If a corrupt judge caves in for purely selfish reasons, won't our loving Father God respond to our cries for justice?

Application
Jesus exhorts us to pray persistently even when it seems that our prayers are not getting any results.

Prayer is not about twisting the arm of a corrupt official but the impassioned sharing of the concerns of our heart with the confidence that God hears us.

Sometimes our answers come quickly, but other times perseverance and faithfulness are called for. When we know that we are praying God's will in a situation, we need to keep at it until the situation is resolved.

Prayer
Loving God. I thank you that you are mighty and powerful, yet you hear my prayers. Help me to be faithful in prayer and to not give up. Amen.
