Scripture
“I will put my Spirit in you and you will live.”
Observation
Ezekiel has a vision of a valley full of dry bones. The Lord tells him to prophesy over the bones, speaking life to them.
So Ezekiel prophesies to the bones and they come together with skin and muscles and tendons, but no “breath.”
The Lord commands Ezekiel to prophesy over them again commanding the wind to come and fill the bodies. He does so and the bodies stand up like a vast army.
The Lord says that this is what He will do to Israel- revive it from the dead and bring it home.
Application
It is hard to imagine anything more dead than a pile of bones. Yet God is able to bring it to life.
Just as God raised Jesus from the tomb, He is able to bring life wherever death seems to be victorious,
God can raise the spiritually dead person to new life.
God can raise dead congregations, even whole denominations.
Death is no match for God.
Prayer
Some days, Lord, it seems that death is all around us- accidents, wars, natural disasters, murder, sickness. But I thank you that death is not too big for you. You broke its power for ever when you raised Jesus from the dead. Amen.
Our awesome God!
