Reflection on Philippians 2:5-11

Scripture
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

Observation
Jesus was the eternal Son of God and yet He laid aside His glory and “made himself nothing.”

He took the nature of a servant, not a ruler, and obeyed the Father all the way to the cross.

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place do that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in worship.

Application
Our sinful nature makes us inclined to exalt ourselves, to put our needs and desires above those of everyone else and to make ourselves judges of what is right and wrong.

The way of Jesus is to empty ourselves of all that is self-directed. We are to follow the path of obedience, even taking up the cross of self-denial every day.

If we do this we will follow Jesus to eternal glory and the commendation of the Father.

Prayer
Lord I find it so hard to give up what I consider to be my rights. Help me to die to myself to rise to LIFE with you. Amen.
