Reflection on John 3:14-21

Scripture
“As Moses lifted up the bronze snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.”

Observation
Jesus makes a connection between the bronze snake in the desert which brought salvation from judgement and his own “lifting up”- his death on the cross.

God's love for the people of the world is such that he sent his only Son to save rather than to condemn.

The coming of Jesus into the world brings both judgement and salvation. It draws the live between death and life, salvation and judgement, light and darkness.

Application
John 3:16 is probably the best known Bible verse in the world today. People like to quote it because it emphasises God's love in salvation.

We need to remember, though, that we are saved from death to life, from condemnation to acceptance.

There is a judgement which every person must face. Only faith in Jesus- total trust in His work on the cross- will bring us through.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank you for bringing me out of the kingdom of death and into your kingdom of life. May I be an agent for eternal life, a true witness to you, today. Amen.

  1. Amen my brother, and i can't help but notice the word "must" in "must be lifted up" (Only faith in Jesus- total trust in His work on the cross- will bring us through). …Amen again.
