Reflection on John 6:56-69

Scripture
Simon Peter replies, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and we know you are the Holy One of God.”

Observation
Jesus continues to speak of eating his flesh and drinking his blood. He is the true bread from heaven and he gives eternal life to everyone who feeds on him.

At this point many of his disciples leave him. Jesus asks the Twelve if they will leave too. Peter replies “Where would we go?”

Application
There are times when following Jesus is not an easy option. There are times when we find it hard to understand where God is taking us.

It is in those difficult or confusing times that our faith is tested.

If we are really abiding in Christ we will know that he will carry us through to the other side.

How do we prepare for the tough times? By feeding on Christ in the easy times. If we focus on Him for the parts we understand, it will be easier in the times we don't understand.

Prayer
Lord Jesus you are the bread that gives eternal life. Teach me how to abide in you always. Amen.
