Reflection on Joshua 5:9-12

Scripture
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the shame of your slavery in Egypt.” So that place is called Gilgal to this day.

Observation
As the Israelites are camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Lord tells Joshua to circumcise all the males.

The Lord tells Joshua that the shame of slavery has now been taken away.

While still at Gilgal, the Israelites celebrate the Passover. They then begin to harvest grain from the land. But from that time, manna which had sustained them for 40 years in the wilderness, is never seen again.

Application
The Lord deals with us in ways that make us grow to maturity.

He takes away our shame, if we are able to give it to Him. There is the shame of sins we have committed and the shame of the sins committed against us. The Lord will take it all and allow us to accept ourselves knowing that we are accepted by Him.

The Lord also provides what we need- always. But He will not provide for us what we can get for ourselves. He is not an all-purpose ATM dispensing cash and other goodies as we demand.

If God calls you to do something He will provide what is needed. He also provides the grain for you to make your own bread. Sometimes He requires us to put in an effort so that we do not become lazy and unreasonably dependent.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, every good gift comes from you. You provide all I need and heal the damage in my spirit. Thank you for your grace at work in my life. Amen.
