Reflection on Revelation 1:4-8

Scripture
“I am the Alpha and the Omega”, says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Observation
This is the beginning of the Book of Revelation, the book which promises a blessing to all who read it and take it to heart.

John addresses the book to the seven churches in Asia. Christ has freed us from our sins and made us to be a kingdom and priests.

Jesus is coming and every eye will see him. God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

Application
John gives us the “big picture” here. The world and its destiny are in God's hands. There will be a time when Jesus returns and every eye will see him.

We can get lost in our day to day worries and concerns. While these things are important to us, we need to bring all of them under God's reign and see them in the perspective of what God is doing in the world

We did not come here by random mutations and we will not leave by chance. Every life has a purpose and is a part of God's purpose for the world.

Prayer
Father you are the Almighty, the Alpha and Onega. You hold the world in your hands. Help me to trust my entire life and each day to you. Amen.
