Scripture
“The harvest is great but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into the fields.”
Observation
Jesus sends seventy-two of his disciples in pairs to all the towns and villages he planned to visit. He tells them to go and heal the sick and preach the coming of the Kingdom of God. Where they are welcomed they are to leave a blessing, but where they are rejected they are to wipe the dust from their feet.
The seventy-two return rejoicing that even the demons obeyed them. Jesus replies that he saw satan fall like lightning. They are not to rejoice over their power over demons but rejoice at their salvation.
Application
Jesus is a sending saviour. Just as He came into the world to bring the Kingdom to us, we also are to go out and take the Kingdom with us.
It amazes me that these disciples went confidently into the towns and villages and preached a simple message about the Kingdom. They healed the sick and cast out demons. This was all before the cross, before the resurrection and before Pentecost. They had a limited message and limited measure of the Holy Spirit, yet achieved great things in the name of Jesus.
We still need to be praying for the Lord of the harvest to send out more workers. But our first prayer should be “Send me Lord.”
Prayer
Send me out to the harvest Father. Let me see who is ready to hear your message. Fill my heart with love and my mouth with your words. Amen.
Reminds me of India – but also what you said recently about walking along each street in Narrabri- announcing the kingdom is here, sharing the good news, healing etc. I suspect that one day we shall just need to take a deep breath and do so. I wonder also whether we won't know if we are able to do this until we are…

I think the pressure from the Holy Spirit will build up until we can no longer hold back and we will know what to do about it.
